By Mary Clare Jalonick | Associated PressWASHINGTON — New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez remained defiant in the face of federal bribery charges on Thursday, telling a room full of his Senate Democratic colleagues that he has no plans to resign.Speaking behind closed doors at the Capitol, Menendez echoed his previous public statements in response to last week’s indictment, according to a person who attended the private luncheon and requested anonymity to discuss it. FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Fall may be just beginning but winter is trying to move in early in parts of Central California. National Weather Service (NWS) Sacramento says there is some potential for snow accumulations, mainly in far southeastern Tuolumne County, near Yosemite National Park, for Friday evening through Saturday evening. KSEE24 Meteorologist Reuben Contreras also added that it's not too unusual to have snow this early in the season - but the snowfall projections are. Contreras says the highest elevations of the Sierra could pick up a foot of snow, but that snow level would be around 8,000 feet, and snowfall will be just one to two inches there. "We do have a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for the Sierra this weekend but it's not the earliest one issued but it is up there," says Contreras.NWS Hanford issued the Winter Weather Advisory around 1 p.m. Thursday saying it's now in effect for portions of the Sierra Nevada above 8,000 feet from Yosemite National Park to S...

A majority of the Boston City Council expressed concerns or outright opposition to the mayor’s proposed anti-encampment ordinance for Mass and Cass during a Thursday hearing, placing Michelle Wu’s plan for the troubled area in jeopardy. While most councilors agreed that the tents should be taken down, the opposition ranged from doubts about whether an ordinance to remove them was necessary to the legalities of a measure some felt criminalizes homelessness to skepticism about an approach that was characterized as putting housing before treatment.Only two councilors, Sharon Durkan and Ruthzee Louijeune, indicated that they would be voting in favor of the ordinance, which would give police the authority to remove tents and tarps on Methadone Mile, provided that individuals are offered housing and transportation to services.“I don’t feel like there’s any evidence that this is actually helping in the same way in which I believe other programs and other efforts that you have led in a very ...

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A new law in California will raise the minimum wage for fast food workers to $20 per hour next year, an acknowledgment from the state's Democratic leaders that most of the often overlooked workforce are the primary earners for their low-income households. When it takes effect on April 1, fast food workers in California will have the highest guaranteed base salary in the industry. The state’s minimum wage for all other workers — $15.50 per hour — is already among the highest in the United States. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the law Thursday amid a throng of cheering workers and labor leaders at an event in Los Angeles.
