GREEN ISLAND, N.Y. (NEWS10) - At Green Island Union Free School District, it's any kid's dream. Every book read gets a student closer to free pizza.This March, the school district is celebrating National Reading Month with the launch of Green Island Reads. In the program, students K-6 select teacher-approved books and get reading, proving their progress by discussing the plot, writing summaries, and other methods. Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Students will win a coupon for every third, sixth and ninth book they read. Those coupons are good for one personal pan pizza each from Spindle City Pizza in Cohoes. Students will also be given punch cards as a way to track progress, getting a punch for each goal. NORTH ADAMS, Mass. (NEWS10) — Officials in North Adams announced on Tuesday that the Brown Street Bridge is closed until further notice. The police department said that the bridge, connecting River Street and West Main Street, was shut down after a state inspection. TROY, Mo. – Police in Troy, Missouri, have taken a person of interest into custody Wednesday in connection with a double homicide. The bodies of a man and woman in their 70s were located Tuesday evening, inside a mobile home near the intersection of Eames and East Cherry streets. According to a spokesperson for the Troy Police Department, family members contacted police to request a wellness check. Officers arrived at the home around 7:30 p.m. and discovered the couple dead. LOUIS - The St. Louis Circuit Attorney's Office charged a teenager Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting from last summer.According to a probable cause statement obtained from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred on the evening of July 12, 2022, in the 2500 block of Semple Avenue, located in the Wells-Goodfellow neighborhood.Police responded to calls for a shooting and found the victim, identified as Rickey Lathan, lying in front of a home suffering from multiple gunshots. A possible tornado damaged multiple buildings in Montebello Wednesday, and video of the incident shows a trail of destruction.The Verdugo Fire Communications Center said the "weather incident" was reported a few minutes before 11:30 a.m. when they responded to the 1200 block of South Vail Street.Images from the scene depict ripped-off parts of a roof and debris strewn about the area. A video submitted by a KTLA viewer shows what appears to be a funnel cloud descending from the clouds above.After the incident, the city of Montebello closed Washington Avenue from Vail Avenue to Greenwood Avenue.The closure is expected to last "for the next few hours," and suggested detours are Telegraph Road and Olympic Boulevard.
